The Goal of Pontoon
The goal of Pontoon is to beat the Dealer without going over 21 in your hand.
- The ultimate hand is a Pontoon, an Ace card paired with any face card. It’s the strongest hand in the game.
- Unlike traditional blackjack, all 10s are removed from the deck. This makes the game more dynamic and unpredictable in exciting ways.
- Any player who hits 21 or lands a Pontoon automatically wins. There’ll be no comparisons or waiting, you’ll be paid instantly!
Basic Gameplay of Pontoon
- Each player is dealt two cards, while the Dealer receives one.
- Based on your hand and the Dealer’s card, you’ll make strategic decisions to improve your odds.
- You can choose to Draw, Split, Double Down, Stay, or Forfeit, each with its own risk and reward.
- Special options like Surrender and Insurance are available depending on the Dealer’s card.
Betting Options and Features of Pontoon
Bet that your first two cards, or the first two cards of a split hand can form any pair.
This option is available if the Dealer shows an Ace or face card.
If the Dealer gets Pontoon, you lose the full amount. If the Dealer doesn’t get Pontoon, only half your bet is lost.
When the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, you can insure your hand against a potential Pontoon, unless you already have one!
Insurance is offered on your first two cards, giving you a chance to protect your bet before the Dealer reveals their hand.
If the Dealer doesn’t hit Pontoon, your Insurance bet is lost.
If you get a pair, you can split your hand and double your chances by matching your original bet.
You may split your hand up to two times with a maximum of three hands.
Aces may only be split once, with one card dealt to each hand.
Double your bet and receive one more card.
Available on your first two cards (except Pontoon or after a split).
After doubling, you may play on or forfeit (losing the original bet but keeping the double).
If the Dealer has Pontoon, only the original bet is taken.
Hit or Stay
Make Your Move
Once the cards are dealt, it’s your turn to decide, will you Hit or Stay? Your goal is to reach 21 points or as close as possible, without going over. Let’s break it down:
- Hit: Ask for another card to boost your total.
- Stay: Hold your position and let the Dealer reveal their cards.
- Players may keep hitting until they reach 21, or choose to Stay earlier if they’re confident (stay to at least 12 points).
- You cannot hit after reaching Pontoon (an Ace + Picture Card) or 21. You’re already holding a winning hand!
Dealer’s Turn
Once all players have made their decisions:
- The Dealer must hit until reaching a minimum of hard 17 (a total of 17 with no Ace counted as 11).
- No choices or hesitation, the rules are automatic and strict.
